The truth is, you don’t NEED any of these accessories. You can store your ice cream in any old plastic container, you can scoop out your ice cream with a tablespoon and you can buy waffles at your favorite grocery store.
BUT … if you are a FOODIE and especially an ice cream lover, IF you have just got your first ice cream maker take a look at some of these really helpful tools and gizmos.
Make your “buying decision” based on
- how much ice cream you make (daily, weekly, monthly)
- how much of a “purist” you are
.. for example do you want your ice cream stored at the perfect temperature?
- whether or not you will ACTUALLY use the tool or gizmo
… for example, if you have kids you might consider the ice cream bar molds, or if you love waffle cones there are two ways to make them!
I’m guessing you will be surprised at the variety of ice cream making gizmos there are!
Yes, you can use an old ice cream container, or you can get one (or two) of these nifty storage containers. They easily fit on your refrigerator door rack, and have an insulated tub that helps keep your ice cream at the perfect temperature. And … a lifetime guaranteed!
Here are a few of the reviews that convinced me to buy and try! (I got two).
“I bought two of these containers in 2017. I have been using them non-stop for keto ice cream and they are a dream! Ice cream stays scoopable and they are easy to store in the freezer door.“ -Amazon Reviewer
“Was using tupperware to keep ice cream but it was getting icy and not completely hard. I purchased 2 of these containers and the difference is amazing. Each container hold one batch, keeps it creamy and frozen solid. Great product.“ -Amazon Reviewer
“Bought these to use after I purchased or new ice cream maker, works amazing. Now not sure if it made the difference or not but we had previously purchased a different brand and the icecream would get freezer burn so being cautious we have put a piece of plastic wrap in between the icecream and the lid and the icecream stays perfect. Just as soft as when we finished making it!“ -Amazon Reviewer
Ice Cream Scoops
Why not just use a tablespoon? I killed two tablespoons before deciding to get something that works! I was able to bend the tablespoons back into shape, but they just aren’t the same anymore, and since they are part of a set … grrrrr!
This one is heavy duty, with a comfortable handle. Whether your ice cream is soft or hard, it makes scooping easy.
Here’s what one raving fan had to say:
“ … this scoop is spectacular! The scoop itself is heavy with a very comfortable handle. It cuts through the ice cream like nothing. And if you heat it up? Cuts through like butter. Excellent, excellent product and amazing value. I would have paid twice as much had I known how great it is!“ -Amazon Reviewer
Ice Cream Bar Molds
This mold can be used both for making ice cream bars AND for baking cakesicles. I use it to make ice cream bars. Though I’d love to dip the whole frozen bar into chocolate, I have yet to spring for a chocolate melting pot … so instead I drizzle chocolate over the bar … looks and tastes great.
The bars are a perfect size at 3 1/2 inches. Great for kids and adults!
My biggest complaint about this product? It only makes 6 bars … so I had to purchase two sets of molds for when I have hoards of visitors!
Waffle Cone Maker
If you already have a round waffle maker all you need is one of these easy to use wooden cone molds, just wrap your waffle around it, let it cool a minute and you’re ready for the next one.
But if you don’t have a waffle maker, here is a waffle cone (and basket) combo at a reasonable price. Once again … only buy gizmos like this IF you plan on using them a lot … otherwise just go to your grocery store and purchase a package of waffle cones or baskets.
Ice Cream Sandwich Maker
I am a fan of ice cream bars, but the jury is definitely out on this gizmo. Some Amazon reviewers love it and other’s hate it. I have a challenge with it for two reasons, I have NO idea if I can find or develop a sugar-free cake/cookie recipe that would work with this. The second challenge … ONLY four bars. I’d have to spring for two units and at this price point, that’s not something I’m willing to do.
BE SURE TO watch the video before you buy.
Ice Cream Dishes
There are literally hundreds to choose from, but here are two of my favorites:
The long spoons somehow make it more elegant!
The plain white bowls let the ice cream take center stage! There are a lot of happy customers for these SMALL serving bowls. Sweese 1106 Porcelain Bowls – 10 Ounce for Ice Cream Dessert, Small Side Dishes – Set of 6, White
