What is the Flat Belly Diet?

by Melanie Leave a Comment

The Flat Belly Diet was developed by the editors of  Prevention Magazine. It was so successful that it spun off a half dozen Prevention cookbooks and dozens of cookbooks and plans from other diet experts, celebrity chefs and fitness gurus.

What is the Flat Belly Diet? How can it help you achieve your weight loss goals? Is it a legitimate and healthy diet? https://sugar-free-zone.com/flat-belly-diet/

The Premise:

Eat specific types of healthy fat with every meal and you will lose weight.

You must avoid unhealthy fats and eat healthy fats or MUFAS (monounsaturated fatty acids) with every meal. The MUFAS help satisfy your hunger and help you overcome cravings.  MUFAs include healthy oils such as olive or coconut oils, but also include olives, avocados, nuts and seeds, and healthy dark chocolate.

The Reality:

Thousands of people swear by this eating plan, which after the first month is remarkably like (a.k.a.  — the same as) the many variations of the Mediterranean Diet.

It is a moderately easy diet to stick to once you are past the first introductory days. During the first four days, you eat four meals a day consisting of 400 calories each. The meals must be spaced no more than 4 hours apart.   You must also drink 2 liters of “sassy water,” which is water mixed with cucumber, lemon,  mint leaves and ginger root.

You should not eat:

  • Processed foods.  Basically anything containing flour or sugar.
  • Foods that can make you gassy such as beans
  • High Carb foods including bananas,  potatoes, and grains

You should eat:

  • MUFAs with every meal and snack
  • Lean meats and fish
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Fresh fruits

Conclusion:

All of the food ingredients are readily available and most of the recipes are easy to make.   You could probably feed your family the same meals without them even noticing! The cookbooks have loads of recipes that are good for diabetics. Eating four meals a day spaced out four hours or less between meals helps keep your blood sugar levels even.

This is a moderate and healthy diet.

I really liked this book by Fitness Guru Jorge Cruise     It is exceptionally motivating with dozens of success stories and a 14-day plan for losing weight fast.   The thing I really did NOT like about this book was the daily morning breakfasts calling for bacon and eggs.  I changed my own breakfast to one based on information and recipes I got from the other books.
